Who’s On First? by Brock Grisham

“Who’s on first?”

Abbott and Costello posed this question to attentive audiences for decades. When applied to our current administration, any apparent humor is lost. Who is leading the United States of America?

For almost a year, our president has played host to the desires of the world community. We have jumped head-first onto the Global Warming band-wagon, taken a gentle approach with the axis-of-evil and are actively appeasing our foreign loan holders. Our president has actively pursued policies that engage our allies as equals and our enemies as misunderstood step-children. We are quickly becoming just another country on the map.

Make no mistake, our foes have taken notice. As a result, North Korea ravenously continues long range missile development, Iran is building hoards of hardened nuclear facilities, Russia pokes at our boarders with overt gusto and China’s unmatched military machine grows exponentially. No longer fearing the long arm of the United States, who can blame them? What better time to peruse your dreams as a terrorist nation or global superpower?

Day by day, the United States of America is becoming less relevant on the world stage. Our reactions under the current administration are both weak and untimely. Take the recent ‘decision’ on Afghanistan. Our Commander-in-Chief was elected to make tough choices in a timely manner. Instead, the world saw a weak president who was afraid to take a single step without first consulting his constituents and reviewing poll numbers. Apply Obama’s decision making style to another Pearl Harbor, Cuban Missile Crisis or 9/11.

Our enemies are wondering: Who’s on first?

Our allies have also taken notice, publically questioning the President’s motives. Obama eagerly pulled plans for a defensive missile system in Poland at the request of the Russians, leaving the Polish out in the cold. His administration was the first in US history to label Israel as “occupiers”, while seeking a truce with her ambitious arab enemies. Our coalition partners in the Middle East are equally uneasy, as the President continues to vacillate between campaign commitments, opinion polls and Islamic sensitivities.

As Americans wage a constant battle to remain unique among nations, maintaining and developing steadfast allies is more important than ever. Unfortunately, the Obama administration continues to discard our global partners in the name of apologetic history and global appeasement. As you read this, Russia is reshaping Iran, Iran is arming Hezbollah, Hezbollah is digging in with Syria, Syria has aligned with Venezuela, Venezuela is hosting China, while China remains North Korea’s biggest ally. Without committed leadership acting on our behalf as Americans, we are doomed to fall victim to the malicious ambitions of our adversaries.

Strong, decisive leadership that supports both our objectives and our allies is critical to our survival as a nation. As threats to our way of life continue to evolve around us, we cannot afford a leader who is preoccupied with his image as a ‘citizen of the world’. The European Union has been down this road and is living with the consequences of weak leadership: socialism. Without clear leadership that takes a stand for our unique values as Americans, we are doomed to fail from within. So are those we call our friends…

Our allies are wondering: Who’s on first?

Against the will of the American people, our elected leaders continue to pursue Government mandated healthcare on the President’s behalf. Liberal legislators are pulling out every stop to pass a bill, any bill that reads “Healthcare”, despite what is actually in the bill itself. This type of irresponsible effort has lacked leadership from the start. As support for health care reform diminishes, the grand author of this expensive social experiment is no where to be found.

So who’s in charge of this trillion dollar train wreck? Ironically, no one. Not one politician wants to take responsibility for health care prior to next year’s mid-term elections. The President has quietly slithered away from the debate, leaving the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to determine our future as Americans. Once again, the President is mum on his involvement and refuses to take a stand. Sound familiar?

President Obama was delinquent in his details for health care reform legislation from the start. Only after a strong outpouring by the American people and their elected representatives did he finally step up to the podium and present his vision. Although eloquent, his words were ambiguous and provided no real substance, leaving scraps of undefined details lingering on the Senate floor. What was promised as hope and change is politics as usual.

Almost a year has passed and no dice. While virtually no one argues that the state of American healthcare needs to be improved, not one leader has stepped forward with a viable plan. Instead, we are presented with volumes of changes, sly alterations and monetary grants to garner undecided votes. Not one representative has been given adequate time to even review the legislation at hand; much less disseminate the particulars for public consideration. What better way for the President to bypass public debate and force an unpopular agenda?

America is wondering: Who’s on first?

I submit to you that our republic is in distress. From within, we have managed to defeat our own agendas, bypass our allies and compromise our strength as a nation. Who needs enemies with leaders like these?

We are destroying ourselves from within. No, we don’t need any help from Russia, Iran or North Korea – Thank you very much; we are quite capable of finishing the job ourselves.

The President is actively gambling away our future as a nation. For those of you who voted for change, congratulations - you got it. For those of us still looking for hope, it looks as if we’ll have to wait a bit longer.

President Barack Obama is not a leader. He is a career politician.

So, who is on first? Your guess is a good as mine…
