Oil has risen to $126 a barrel today. That is a record high with no end in sight. There are now concerns whether or not the United States will sanction Venezuela over reports that big fat Hugo Chavez is trying to overthrow the government of Columbia.
On Friday, The Wall Street Journal published a report that suggested closer ties between Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and rebels attempting to overthrow Colombia’s government. Chavez has been linked to Colombian rebels previously, but the paper reported it had reviewed computer files indicating concrete offers by Venezuela’s leader to arm guerrillas. That appears to heighten the chances that the U.S. could impose sanctions on one of its biggest oil suppliers.
“If we put on sanctions, I’m sure Chavez would threaten to cut off our oil supply,” said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. “Obviously that would have a major impact on oil prices.”
That being said, when will the people of the United States wake up and DEMAND that something be done about the supply of oil in this country?
And I’m not talking about taxing corporations for making money. That does NOTHING for the supply. That is just a socialistic view on things coming from the Left.
The United States has not built a refinery since 1976!
The last refinery built in the US was in Garyville, Louisiana, and it started up in 1976.
We have tons of oil in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico. But, God forbid anyone mentions the “D” word…drilling. The lefty environmentalist groups have a heart attack anytime anyone mentions it and nuclear power. That is why we rely on so much imported oil. That is why gas prices keep going up. Not because the evil corporations are making money. It’s because the evil environmentalists do not allow us to do anything.
So then, I say stop complaining about gas prices and start complaining that we do not have enough supply. Uh hello…supply and demand? Has anyone else heard of such a thing?
The “leaders” in our government lead you to believe that it’s the corporations fault, or Bush’s fault, or Saudi Arabia’s fault. It’s our “leaders” fault for not getting off their rear ends and doing something about it besides raise taxes, complain about evil corporations and the like.
