In an article originally published in Soldier Of Fortune on March 29, 2008 and titled: DEMISE OF THE GREEN BERETS? My old friend and frequent contributer to libNOT.com wrote a panicky sounding email wondering “what the hell is going on?” with his beloved former unit of the mid 1960’s. Loboyazoo was one of the old guard, 5th Group SF members (as is one of my sons) and is both angry and scared that Special Forces may be just a memory if the article written by Major General Guest is true.

In a paragraph included in the piece by MGen Guest the heading reads like something out of a novel and the information that follows is worse.

SPECIAL FORCES DVD WITHOUT SPECIAL FORCES

In April 2007, USSOCOM put out a 20-minute DVD celebrating its twentieth anniversary. Even though Special Forces personnel make up the greatest part of the USSOCOM forces, the U. S. Army Special Forces are never once mentioned in this DVD. Although Special Forces is the oldest force in USSOCOM and has been the USSOCOM workhorse since its inception, not one Green Beret is seen in the montage of photographs.

The paragraph above is, I think, very telling in it’s implication. Are the Special Forces done for? Keep your ear to the ground friends and readers of the best trained, best fighting unit in the world - please let us know what’s going on.
