Mar. 21, 2008 - U.S. Army Spc. Monica Brown draws a young boy’s blood at the hospital on Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, on March 13, 2008. Brown will be awarded the Silver Star for saving the lives of five wounded soldiers when their convoy came under attack in April 2007. Brown, a medic from the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, will be only the second female since World War II to be awarded the Silver Star.
