Lowndes County, AL: Black Bear Makes Safe Escape

BVG sent this in regarding a treed bear in Alabama.

Lowndes County, Al. (WSFA) — There was an unusual find Thursday afternoon in Lowndes County.

Landowner “Mr. Willie” Lowrey heard a dog barking and as he looked up he saw a full grown bear at the top of a tree!

Lowrey was doing some work on his property off Highway 31 just over the Montgomery County-Lowndes County line when he noticed the spectacle.

He called WSFA 12 News back on Friday to report that the bear made a safe trip back down the tree and disappeared after dark late Thursday night.

WSFA 12 News is told the dog actually treed the bear, which climbed near the top of the pine tree.

Lowrey says a game warden came out and told him to put up the dog, and leave the bear alone.
