‘I’m coming at you and you will blow up in a couple of minutes’ - Iranian Gunboat Captain
January 7, 2008
This is starting to get interesting. The United States today reported the several Iranian gunboats came “very” close to three U.S Naval Warships in the Strait of Hormuz. They were so close, that U.S ships were manning their guns and were about ready to fire on the gunboats when they just turned around and left. The Iranian captain also threatened to ram his boat into the U.S ship.
The White House issued a stern warning to Tehran today after Iranian speedboats buzzed three US navy ships passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz and reportedly threatened to blow them up.
A Pentagon official said that US forces were “literally” on the verge of firing on the Iranian boats and had moved to man their guns when the Iranians turned and sped away. No shots were fired in the incident yesterday morning in one of the world’s key shipping routes for crude oil.
“We urge the Iranians to refrain from such provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident in the future,” said Gordon Johnson, spokesman for the White House’s National Security Council, in a terse statement.
Details of the incident remain unclear, but the skipper of one of the five Iranians speedboats reportedly said in a radio transmission: “I’m coming at you and you will blow up in a couple of minutes.”
“It is the most serious provocation of this sort that we’ve seen yet,” a Pentagon official said.
Obviously the Iranians are growing more desperate and more deluded by the day. Iran is falling apart economically as we speak and I do believe it is just a matter of time before the little leader will be run out of office. The mullahs, however are another story. We can only hope!
I still say that this U.S President will not leave office with this Iranian question looming for the next administration like the Clinton administration left the Osama bin Laden problem for the current President.

Navy handled the situation well. But sooner or later some Iranian boats will have to be sunk in order for the Iranians to get the message.
Carl - thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately though, we are as usual in a no win situation on the world stage. Training, guts and the best Navy in the world saved the lives of the Iranians on those boats….even as the memory of the USS Cole (October 2000) remains strong among the personnel on those ships in the Straits of Hormuz..
I wonder if the British would have been so patient in light of the kidnapping of their sailors that occurred some months ago? I think not.
Carl - I have some other comments at this link: http://www.libnot.com/2008/01/09/strait-of-hormuz-incident-unduly-provocative-5th-fleet-commander/
I’d be interested in your further commentary.
Kind regards,

Yeah, you know what memory comes to my mind? Gulf of Tonkin. Fabricated or at the very least greatly exaggerated incident blown out of proportion to drum up support for a new war. Funny, Lyndon Johnson was satisfied with telling lies to justify one immoral war. President Bush and his kabal of neo-con lunatics feel the need to have at least two wars of insanity before they leave their ill begotten office.
And I believe it is the Bush Administration that is becoming more desperate and deluded by the day, to think that the American public will fall for this obvious ploy. True American Patriots can see through these smoke and mirror attempts the Bush Administration is using to lead us astray.
It’s like Der Fuhrer Bush said: “Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.’
Or, much more eloquently, The Who: “WE WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!”
LOL!
Luke, your comments are written with an eloquence not often seen within these pages. You really do make me, lol.
Thanks so much for your comment.
