The DREAM Act was defeated again today in the Senate by a vote of 52-44. The DREAM Act is another way of letting “illegal immigrants” benefit from our social services. This bill was going to let children of illegal immigrants possibly get legal status if they were brought here by their parents.
However, besides setting a bad precedent, the bill would have granted legal status for illegals up to 30 years old!! Sorry, but, a 30 year old anything isn’t a child!
The Center for Immigration Studies points out:
The Center for Immigration Studies, a group that opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants and advocates for lower legal immigration, estimates that the DREAM Act could benefit as many as 2.1 million illegal immigrants, including the direct beneficiaries, their parents, siblings and others.
The group also expects that “given the difficultly in determining whether an applicant meets the DREAM Act’s amnesty requirements, coupled with the overworked nature of the immigration bureaucracy, fraud could be a significant problem.”"
Read that again. This bill would have benefited 2.1 million illegal immigrants. That’s just great. Let’s just add another 2.1 million people to the government payroll.
Here’s a great Neil Cavuto segment on this subject right after it broke earlier today.
