San Francisco Judge says “NO” to making businesses fire illegal immigrants

This is really getting ridiculous! A SAN FRANCISCO judge this week stayed an order by Homeland Security to ENFORCE an existing law requiring businesses to fire employees that they could not verify legal or illegal. That means that if a company has hired a person who gives a bad social security number, and that company is notified about this, the company has to fire the person, who is obviously an illegal. First of all, this law has been on the books since 1986.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced the rule Aug. 10 as a means of toughening the little-enforced 1986 law that subjects employers to criminal prosecution or civil penalties for knowingly employing illegal immigrants.

Second of all, this judge states that she has a problem with whether this “crackdown” on illegals was legal or not:

Chesney said there was a serious question about whether the Bush administration’s planned crackdown on illegal workers was authorized by law. She also said the government would suffer little inconvenience from a delay, compared with the hardship to employees who might be improperly identified as illegal immigrants.

Look at that quote. She’s saying that she has a problem with the legality of the crackdown on ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!!!! What is wrong with this picture??!!! The word ILLEGAL should say it all. These people are ILLEGAL immigrants. Illegal to me means breaking the law. So, I cannot see the correlation between the supposed “crackdown” on illegals and enforcing the law. Maybe it’s me.

Here is Secretary Chertoff yesterday about this issue and a few others:
