Finally! Iraqi Citizens fighting back against the terrorists

Today, citizens in a Sunni section of Baghdad, fought back against al-Qaida terrorists that were shooting randomly and trying to keep the citizens inside of their homes and from students taking their final exams. The Iraqi’s actually called in U.S military help in the fighting! I find this very interesting as these are Sunnis that asked for our help. As you may recall, al-Qaida is a Sunni based organization. Maybe, just maybe, the fine regular people of Iraq are getting sick and tired of all of the random killings by groups such as al-Qaida.

According to Yahoo news:

U.S. forces backed by helicopter gunships clashed with suspected al-Qaida gunmen in western Baghdad’s primarily Sunni Muslim Amariyah neighborhood in an engagement that lasted several hours, said the district councilman, who would not allow use of his name for fear of al-Qaida retribution.

Casualty figures were not immediately available and there was not immediate word from the U.S. military on the engagement.

But the councilman said the al-Qaida leader in the Amariyah district, known as Haji Hameed, was killed and 45 other fighters were detained.

Members of al-Qaida, who consider the district part of their so-called Islamic State of Iraq, were preventing students from attending final exams, shooting randomly and forcing residents to stay in their homes, the councilman said.

Dutch broadcaster defends ‘bad taste’ donor show

“Bad taste” is putting it mildly! A reality TV show airs this Friday in the Netherlands “starring” a 37 year old woman dying of a brain tumor, deciding among three contestants (called “patients”) who will get one of her kidneys.

Zoellick Nominated to Head World Bank

(CNSNews.com) - President Bush Wednesday nominated former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to head the World Bank. Zoellick will replace current World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, who is stepping down June 30 after a bank panel found he violated rules by authorizing a hefty raise for his girlfriend, Middle East expert Shaha Riza. Bush said Zoellick “has earned the trust and support of leaders from every region of the world.” Zoellick “is deeply devoted to the mission of the World Bank,” Bush added. “The World Bank has passed through a difficult time for all involved. There are frustrations, anxieties and tensions about the past that could inhibit the future,” said Zoellick during a press conference at the White House. “This is understandable, but not without remedy. We need to put yesterday’s discord behind us and to focus on the future together,” he said, adding that “the World Bank’s best days are still to come.”

Socialism? or Communism? You decide!

Our lovely Senator from NY, Hillary Clinton, now wants to replace our society from an “on your own” society to a “we’re all in it together” society! Now, forgive my ignorance, but, isn’t something like a ‘we’re all in it together’ type society basically communism??!! Which, by the way, failed miserably after only 70 or so years?? These are also the same people who want to give everyone healthcare!! Ask any Canadian where they go for big surgeries. HERE…the greatest Healthcare system on Earth!! Jeez! And THEY want to change it!! Unbelievable.

The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an “ownership society” really is an “on your own” society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

PS…notice the last line there? “requires the right government policies” That, in politico speak, means raise taxes and bigger government!! Just what we need!!

“Venezuela’s oldest private television station was pushed off the air as President Hugo Chavez’s government replaced the popular opposition-aligned network on Monday with a new state-funded channel.”
